Can't sleep. Never gonna sleep.

Started a new new piece today (the octopus) on handmade cotton paper and spending the night working on that as well as the salton sea piece (also on handmade cotton paper). It's 1:35am and I am exhausted but no hopes for sleep anytime soon. I think I may do a papermaking workshop in Tallahassee - especially using kudzu...it's invading our town!

Here is a picture from First Friday! And two (finally) finished pieces! I am working on my Etsy shop today so there will be updates soon! And I am a little sleep deprived and sick so I will be wrapped up in blankets on the couch, drinking copious amounts of coffee, and probably watching Hocus Pocus, Teen Witch, Monster Squad...etc etc. ...while working.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! And thank you to all my friends and to all the wonderful new people I met who came out last night!

This First Friday I am having a show with all my new work at a friend’s gallery space in Railroad Square. These are just sneak peaks of what I am working on. I have sooo much to do still! Hope to see all my friends there!

Oh and happy October! It has been so beautiful here in Tallahassee lately! I have been looking up (endlessly) bread recipes because I am going to do some serious baking this weekend! I want our whole home to smell like comfort, coffee, pumpkins, baked goods, fire, and friends.

slow &steady

new by brokenbees

Slowly but surely working on a new piece - experimenting with watercolor &coffee dyed handmade paper.

I packed up my bags yet again and now I am drifting in Hollywood until I fly back to Florida on the 20th. Tomorrow Gina and I are heading to Venice Beach to hang out with our artist friend Chris to sell clothes and art. I am trying to churn out some new pieces and also make some “business” cards to try &leave some sort of mark on Los Angeles before I bolt.

Things I look forward to:
-friends
-endless sleepovers
-kisses
-staying up all night in RR Square painting &sewing
-the cold?
-potlucks
-Tallahassee.

jars

Recycled mason jars containing family photographs with fabric wrapped around the lids. This pretty much sums up my aesthetic and focus of my art for now.

washbin

This is from a performance piece I did at 621 Gallery in April for the BA/BS graduation show. It is based on one of my favorite subjects (I am still learning a
great deal about): Existentialism. After reading Kundera's The Unbearable Lightness of Being, I was greatly influenced by the character Teresa and her need to feel a weightlessness that was both physical and metaphysical. This was also me dealing with the fact that I was about to move from my home state of Florida (of 22/23 years) and move to New York. I needed a way to take everything and represent it in something tangible and literally remove it all from my being. I sat in a washbin and sewed an "intestine" which was all encompassing.
